Youth and adults who attend the Louisiana Get Out There
training will learn research based, proven strategies that
will focus on environmental change. Many of the strategies
are a part of the Communities Mobilizing for Change on
Alcohol program and the National Academies of Science
Report to Congress on Underage
Drinking.

* Working with schools to ensure uniform enforcement of

Laws and Ordinances
Learn what state
laws and local ordinances are in effect across the country.
Learn how the laws and ordinances were passed and how they
are reducing underage drinking and drug use. Many of the
most effective laws are in place because of youth
advocating for them!!!
* Partnering with Law Enforcement
Hear directly
from community activists and police officers who have
worked together to educate members of law enforcement about
the importance of strict enforcement of underage drinking
and drug use laws. Learn how to effectively communicate
with police officers to encourage action. Learn how to
assist law enforcement with the overwhelming task of
combating underage drinking.
* Reducing Illegal Sales of Alcohol
See how the
prevention community can work with the alcohol industry,
retailers, and restaurants to reduce illegal sales of
alcohol to minors. Learn how to help these businesses
recognize fake id's and take action when minors attempt to
purchase alcohol.
* School Drug Violations
Do some schools
in your area really crack down on students who drink or use
other drugs while other schools seem not to strictly
enforce these rules? Learn what schools across the country
are doing to ensure equal treatment of violators regardless
if they are the stars of the football team or members of
the National Honor Society.
* Reducing Alcohol Advertising and Sponsorship
Does alcohol
seem to be everywhere in your community? Do young children
grow up seeing alcohol being advertised everywhere?
Numerous studies show a link between alcohol advertising
and underage drinking. Learn from community activists who
have eliminated alcohol advertising and sponsorships at
festivals, events, and stores.
* Developing Media Campaigns
Some of the most
successful movements in the history of our country have
occurred because of people successfully getting the word
out. One of the main strategies in the National Academies
of Science Report is for communities to develop effective
media campaigns to reduce underage drinking and other drug
use. Studies have also shown that effectively publicizing
enforcement efforts reduces drug use. Learn what you can do
in your community with your local media.
